Ratios - Share in Ratio a:b

Jack and Jill are to share £100 in the ratio 2:3.

This means that, Jack is to have 2 shares and Jill is to have 3 shares.

Thus the total number of shares is 2 + 3 = 5

Each share is worth £100 ÷ 5 = £20

Jack is to have 2 shares - so Jack will get 2 × £20 = £40

Jill is to have 3 shares - so Jill will get 3 × £20 = £60

CHECK
£40 + £60 = £100 √

How much should I show to make the method clear?
2 + 3 = 5
£100 ÷ 5 = £20
Jack    2 × £20 = £40
Jill       3 × £20 = £60
CHECK    £40 + £60 = £100 √
