x subtract 1 equals 7            x - 1 = 7
[1] INVERSE      of subtract 1 is add 1          + 1
[2] BALANCE      add 1 to other side          + 1
[3] SIMPLIFY      both sides          x = 8

Video Showing Example x - 29 = - 23

Example x - 3 = 12
With Check
x subtract 3 equals 12              x - 3 = 12
[1] the inverse of subtract 3 is add 3          + 3
[2] add 3 to other side          + 3
[3] consolidate both sides          x = 15
CHECK
[1] substitutiuon is          x = (15)
[2] do substitution                      (15) - 3 = 12
[3] consolidate                      12 = 12
